About the Center

The Career & Life Counseling Center located at Bergen Workforce Center provides comprehensive counseling, training, job placement and a range of critical support services, assists displaced homemakers, single parents and economically disadvantaged women to achieve self-sufficiency. The Center focuses on the transition of women from the home to work place. Services include:
  • Individual and group counseling with professional career counselors
  • Vocational, aptitude testing and personality profiles
  • Computerized career exploration programs
  • Programs to encourage and support women through job training

Job training Programs are offered in:

  • Electronics
  • Computer
  • Training for Trades
  • Adult Basic Education for remediation
  • GED, ESL(English as a Second Language) classes
The Center also provides Legal Seminars, Personal Growth Seminars, Career Exploration, Employment Readiness, and ongoing Support Groups.

Women's Rights Information Center helps women and their families become self-sufficient by providing services which includes:
  • Assistance with problem solving
  • Linkage with resources
  • Legal consultations
  • Separated/Divorced support groups
  • Shared housing
  • Employment services which includes:
- Computer Classes
- Career counseling
- Resume Consultation
- Interview Preparation
- Job/Talent Bank
- Occupational Training
- Workshops presented by expert female workers on professional, personal and business issues
 
  Emphasis is on the Hispanic population and the problems caused by language barriers and adapting to a new culture. ESL classes are offered several times a week in beginning, advanced and workplace levels. Workshops on employment, career, job search skills, parenting, legal issues, life skills and confidence are offered throughout the year, as are computer classes.
